Exhibition: "The Origin"

This exhibition is a travel to the latest knowledge and discoveries on physics and human paleontology as well as to the legends and myths that are accompanying the Origin. Many artists from different countries and using different techniques (painting, sculptures, pottery, art-glass, photography, poetry, music, ballet) will contribute with their artistic vision to the various subjects treated. Artists from the Nairucu-Arts Centre will illustrate the legend of the Origin of the Makonde. It is conceived as a travelling exhibition. It is done in collaboration with Frascati Scienza, CERN, INFN, ISA Marino, the Museum of Anthropology "Giuseppe Sergi" Università degli studi di Roma "La Sapienza". With the support of the "Comune di Frascati". With this exhibit we aim to contribute to build and provide infrastructure to an Art School for the Province of Nampula, Mozambique.

Exhibition: "Légendes vues d'ici et ailleurs"

Exhibition organized by CERN Staff Association of drawings and objects made by the students of the School of Rapale in Mozambique and by children and students from DSG and ECOLINT in Geneva, GIAP of Carouge, and Confort School in France having participated to the project "Legends from the Makonde reinterpreted" launched in Autumn 2009. It was also an occasion to present sculptures, pottery and paintings inspired to the legends recently produced by the artists of the Centre.

Exhibition: "Lendas do povo Makonde" "Makonde Legends"
National Ethnographic Museum, Nampula, Mozambique

The exhibition will consist of:

Important pieces of Makonde Art and documents from the National Ethnographic Museum of Nampula.
Posters with the text of some selected legends in Portuguese, French and English.
Drawings inspired by these legends made by the students of the School of Rapale where the Nairucu-Arts Centre is located under the supervision of Eduardo Patricio Namembe and Jochicala. Selected drawings made by children and students having participated to the project "Legends from the Makonde reinterpreted" launched in Autumn 2009 in Geneva.
Sculptures, Pottery and Paintings inspired to the legends produced by the artists of the Centre.

A Makonde Dance Event

During the time of the exhibition the reading of legends in Makua to school children and museum tours will be organized at the intention of the local schools.
